About Creative Destruction

The reality is, the news industry is changing, and it’s changing fast.

Newspapers are losing revenue and local TV stations are struggling. The internet has disrupted the news business in profound ways but has provided little in the form of a sustainable business model.

Unfortunately, the wall between the business and editorial sides of the business, which worked so well for so many years, has stymied the conversation about how we pay  for good journalism in the digital era.

As journalism students, we at Creative Destruction want to break that wall and start a meaningful, serious and practical discussion of how to fix the modern news business.

This isn’t going to be just a theoretical discussion either. We’re going to be putting our money where our mouths are. We’ve just completed our first project, The Strike Situation, a news source dedicated to covering the possibility of a strike at Carleton University.

The next step will be an application to the Knight News Challenge. We’ll talk more about that shortly.

If you care about the future of news, we encourage you to follow along and join the discussion.
